The coaching staff of Canyon Lake High School constantly seek to emphasize achieving individual and team excellence through having a vision of success and empowerment. 

Excellence, whether it be in sports or life in general, is not only about winning a competition, but also having the ability to learn and grow from defeat.

Coaching is the art and practice of inspiring, energizing, and facilitating the performance, learning and development of  the player. (Myles Downey). 

Coaching, for us at CLHS, involves teaching the art and science of playing a sport.  This not only involves the teaching of techniques, but also six additional aspects of coaching:

1. Inspiration - for coaches, it is all about helping players unlock their true potential through raising awareness, inspiring new ideas and encouraging creativity.

2. Energizing - coaching is about energizing the player through effective communication, soliciting suggestions, and building a can-do attitude

3. Facilitating - for coaches, it is all about getting a player to think and react, think through events and actions him/herself

4. Performance - a coach's greatest desire is to achieve greater effectiveness or efficiency of his/her players -- everything a coach does is driven by the intention to improve performance

5. Learning - this refers to how a coach approaches teaching his/her players to master a new task, looking beyond immediate objectives to the future performance of the individual and/or team

6. Development - for the coach, it is essential to focus on helping players in their personal growth and their striving for greater self-awareness.
